Scholarships and Bursary program

YRC Scholarships and Bursary programs are designed to provide financial support to students to continue their musical education. Bursary programs are offered to student who have studied with YRC for a period of 12 months or more and are means tested, while Scholarship applicants audition, and are judged on technique and musicality.

Young Regional Conservatorium’s Scholarship Program recognises talent, potential, and dedication in our students. Scholarships are awarded each year.

SCHOLARSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR 2027

1.      Scholarships are dependent upon funding from external bodies. YRC reserves the right to withdraw scholarships if insufficient funding is received.

2.      Scholarship holders must attend the presentation ceremony at the 2026 SCHOLARSHIP CONCERT on Sunday November 8, 2026.

3.      Scholarship holders must perform at the 2027 Scholarship Students Concert (date to be announced).

4.      A specific scholarship cannot be held for more than two consecutive years by a student. After two years holding a scholarship, a student may apply for a different scholarship.

5.      Students are eligible to apply for more than one scholarship (eg a student may apply for a piano scholarship and a clarinet scholarship but will need to audition on both instruments). A student will only be awarded one scholarship per year.

6.      Each audition will incur a $20 fee, invoiced upon receipt of application.

7.      Two contrasting pieces are to be performed at the Scholarship Auditions. The performance of these pieces must not exceed ten minutes.

8.      Students should treat these auditions as a performance and present themselves accordingly.

9.      Pieces requiring accompaniment must be performed with an accompaniment.

10. It is the responsibility of the applicant to arrange accompaniment rehearsals and accompanying for the audition. YRC tutors can provide accompanist recommendations and contact details. Charges for accompanying will be invoiced following the auditions. (see Schedule of Fees for current charges)

11. Recorded accompaniments must be approved by the CEO. Students undertaking AMEB exams which allow recorded accompaniments may use these approved recordings.

12. Scholarships will be announced during the week following auditions.

13. A reserve for each scholarship will be announced. In the case of a scholarship holder withdrawing from lessons during 2027, the remainder of the scholarship will be awarded to the reserve student.

The Young Regional Conservatorium Bursary Program offers financial assistance to those experiencing hardship.

Bursaries are offered to students who have been enrolled more than one year (12 months) and whose families are experiencing financial difficulties. Bursaries may be granted to more than one child in a family. Bursaries may be offered to students participating in schools’ programs at the discretion of the CEO and school principal. Please note, that you will be asked to provide information about your financial position. The information you supply will help determine your eligibility for financial assistance only and will be strictly confidential.

Bursaries will usually constitute 50% of tuition fees on ONE instrument. In exceptional circumstances, this assistance may be increased

BURSARY TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR 2027

The successful applicant MUST:

  1. Pay the balance of the total cost of lessons after the bursary has been applied.

  2. Commit to learning the instrument for the full year with Young Regional Conservatorium.

  3. Pay all outstanding fees before applying for a bursary

  4. Attend relevant workshops and masterclasses conducted by Young Regional Conservatorium at no cost to the student.

  5. Be willing, where skills allow, to belong to any relevant musical groups and to perform in YRC Concerts.

  6. Attend scheduled lessons and notify the YRC office where attendance is genuinely impossible.  (In this case, lessons may be made up in accordance with the normal procedures of the conservatorium).

  7. Notify YRC should a change in circumstances negate the need for a bursary.

 Please note that the Board reserves the right to withdraw the bursary at any time should student commitments not be met.
